SAINT JOHN BOSCO
FEAST DAY: JANUARY 31ST
John Bosco was born in Becchi, Piedmont, Italy in 1815. At the age of sixteen, he began studying for the priesthood and was ordained in 1841. After his ordination, he was sent to Valdocco, a suburb of Turin, Italy, where he helped hundreds of young people spiritually and also taught them trades to help them to be successful in life. He had a special interest and love for the youth of his country. With Our Lady's help he established the Salesian order for priests and the Daughters of Our Lady for women following their religious vocation. Through his labors some 1000 priests and 900 nuns were formed during his lifetime. Pope Pius XI canonized him in 1934.
